Here's some cheery news..

Tim Farron is restanding as Lib Dem President.

Read all the details here. Surely no one will stand against him? He's been a wonderful President, a champion of the membership and a fine upholder of our values.

Plus an election would cost money we don't have.

I'd be interested to see if anyone in the Party holds a contrary view. But otherwise, surely it will be Tim by acclamation come Conference.

  1. Yes, a brilliant champion for the membership...

...apart from that business with conference accreditation (and who *exactly* gave him the power to rule yay or nay on members attending our conference?)...

So, yeah, a fine upholder of our values...

...apart from that slightly illiberal letter telling the Advertising Standards Authority that Christians shouldn't have to follow the same rules as everyone else when it comes to making medical claims.

Which, be fair, he apologised for.

And the business with the intern.

Which, again, be fair, he apologised for.

Let just say, sorry Tim, but the shines come off a bit.

  2. All excellent points. I think Tim's natural honesty in saying 'sorry' when he screws up is one of his finest qualities.

It will be interesting however to see if this comes back to haunt him if/when he ever stands as leader.

I also hope he isn't used again as he was over accreditation (http://aviewfromhamcommon.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/today-role-of-shirley-williams-will-be.html )

And I'm still disappointed Tim didn't rebel over third reading on the NHS bill. I know others feel similarly over the Welfare bill.

But overall, I think he has considerably more pluses than minuses.
